How to Become AAHA Accredited
headerline

"The advice that I have for any practice manager who is working in a clinic that is not accredited is to go for accreditation. You'll find it just raises the bar for everything that you're doing in your clinic. You are probably already meeting most of the standards that you need for accreditation and it gives you a chance to look at the others and help improve what it is that you're delivering to your clients and patients."
— Sharon DeNayer, Practice Manager, Windsor Veterinary Clinic PC, Windsor, CO

Step 1

To join as a nonaccredited team, click here to apply or call 800/883-6301 to speak with a member service specialist.

or

If you are already a nonaccredited member click here to apply for accreditation.

Step 2

Once you apply for accreditation, you will have access to the AAHA Evaluation Tool  and may start going through the AAHA standards as soon as you apply.

Step 3

Approximately 90 days before a practice consultant is in your area, you will be notified of the specific date and time of your evaluation. Once scheduled your in-house practice accreditation coordinator will contact you to begin working with you as you prepare for your evaluation.

Step 4

On the day of your evaluation, your practice consultant will determine if you have successfully passed each section of the AAHA Standards of Accreditation including the mandatory standards.

Step 5

Upon successful completion of your evaluation, your information is sent to the Membership Audit and Control Committee for approval.

Step 6

After approval, your membership will be converted to an Accredited Practice Membership. We encourage you to include everyone in your practice as AAHA members. (Evaluation fees will be billed after your evaluation).

Step 7

Your practice will receive a letter of congratulations and a plaque proudly designating you as an AAHA-Accredited Practice! You will also be mentioned on the "Congratulations to Newly Accredited Hospitals" pages on Healthypet.com and AAHAnet.org and appear on the Healthypet.com hospital locator.

Step 8

Your next evaluation will be two years from the first one and every three years after that.

To find out more about membership, call the Member Service Center at 800/252-2242 or 303/986-2800.
