Pet Food Recall

We are extremely saddened to learn about pets that have become ill or died after consuming the pet foods cited in the Menu Foods recall. We wish to express our sympathy to the pet owners and their families as well as the veterinary staff who have been affected.
Since the recall was announced on March 16, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other organizations have been working diligently to identify the cause of this problem. As more testing and analyses have been performed, the information available to veterinary professionals and the public has changed. The rapidly evolving nature of this situation has been at times confusing and frustrating.
We share your frustration as you work to provide care and consultation to your clients. As this situation changes, one constant does not change: Pet owners should watch for any changes in their pet’s behavior and contact you immediately if they have any concerns. Below you will find links to resources to help you, including a client information sheet that can used to inform your clients about what to do if they believe their pet has consumed the recalled products or is exhibiting symptoms of renal disease.
AAHA Client Information Sheet: The handout is being provided in a Word document so that you can customize the content including adding your practice information, printing it on your letterhead, or copying it into an email.
